Research Coordinator Job Background The center for innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) is a World Bank supported African Center of Excellence hosted in the College of Health Sciences of Addis Ababa University. The main objective of CDT-Africa is to support equitable access to interventions (Medications, diagnostics, and other interventions) and bring about sustainable development in Africa through high quality capacity development for innovative drug and therapeutic discoveries. CDT-Africa currently have five different projects running under the Center. Now, CDT-Africa is looking for an experienced research coordinator who can co-ordinate the EXIT-TB project: Translation research into policy and practice: Scaling up Evidence Based Multiple focus Integrated Intensified TB Screening to End TB. The Role of the Research Co-ordinator The successful applicant will be responsible for the operational running of EXIT TB project of CDT-Africa, with a particular focus on conducting research and co-ordinating feasibility trials. Principal responsibilities: Work closely with project investigators to plan and co-ordinate study activities. Prepare for field activities, including planning staff activities, utilisation of cars and financial resources. Field trips to the study site to conduct interviews and ToC workshops, and at least weekly visits to ensure the smooth running of the projects. Line management of field co-ordinators, data collectors and other field staff. Work closely with the data manager and project leads to ensure implementation of all standardised operating procedures for quality data collection and management. Works as a field coordinator in supervision and quality control activities. Liaise with local stakeholders to support engagement in the studies. Conduct qualitative data collection, including in-depth interviews, Theory of Change workshops and ethnographic (participant observation) work. Carry out cleaning and basic analysis of quantitative datasets, with support and supervision. Involvement in research dissemination activities. Additional tasks as directed by the Head of the Center or study investigators. Terms and conditions Hours of Work: governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working overtime and weekends, with due financial compensation. Holidays: governed by the rules of Addis Ababa University for project workers. Length of Contract: This is a two year post subject to six monthly contract renewal. Probationary Period and Notice Period: There is a three-month probationary period for this role. The notice period is one month. At least 3 years of experience working at least at the level of a research assistant. Ability to follow standard operating procedures in relation to safe and sensitive conduct of such research with vulnerable participants. Knowledge of health research. Able to liaise electronically with international co-investigators. Discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Strong computer program literacy and knowledge. Willingness to travel to study sites on a weekly basis. Strong administrative and organisational skills. Experience with clinical trials is an advantage. Personal attributes Well-organised. A high level of attention to detail. Ability to work with others, including international collaborators. Excellent communication and organizational skills, including prompt responses to electronic communications where internet is accessible. Comfortable raising concerns about participant health and safety to seniors. Appreciation of the need for sensitive communication with vulnerable participants.
