Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of media projects in Ethiopia. It seeks to expand this portfolio of work, but also ensure that existing projects are delivered to time, to budget and to the highest standards, and in accordance with BBC editorial values as well as Media Action methodologies.   1.      Outreach Officer Overall Purpose of Job The Outreach Officer will be responsible for, in coordination with the Senior Outreach Officer, planning and delivering the outreach activities of the Baby WASH project in SNNPR, Amhara and Oromia Regions. Reporting to the Senior Outreach Officer, the purpose of the role is to ensure timely preparation of IPC toolkits and training manuals, delivery of IPC training for Health Extension Workers, set-up and support local listener groups in the three regions according to schedule and to the required standards of the BBC Media Action. Main Duties: Establish and organize listening groups in Bensa woreda of Sidama Zone, Zequala and Sekota woredas of Wagihimra Zone, and Moyale and Arero woredas of Borena zone. Provide facilitation training to focal people and facilitators of the listening groups. Follow up and facilitate the development of IPC training manuals Establish smooth working relationships with partners, both broadcasters and government agencies for effective running of listeners’ group activities. Closely monitor the listening groups to ensure the quality of discussions are meeting the objectives of the project and effectively contributing to behavior change Build a strong relationship with the BBC Media Action and partner station production teams to ensure discussions are linked to all media output on resilience. Design and facilitate the development of Interpersonal Communication toolkits. The Outreach Officer Ensure the proper dissemination of the IPC toolkits Devise and implement a process to ensure listener group content is linked to media productions. Be willing to learn recording techniques to collect and record stories for programme making Be proactive about updating the project management, research and production teams on activities, challenges, highlights and successes of all outreach activities so as to inform project and radio programme strategy. Effectively manage the expenses of listening groups according to BBC Media Action financial procedures. Distribute recorded materials for listening groups every month or as appropriate. Distribute reporting formats and collect reports and feedback from listeners every month. Analyze feedback coming from the listeners groups and submit to production team for input into our radio programmes. Monitor and manage activities of listener groups as per our guidelines and follow up their progress. Manage and compile data and feedback coming from the listeners group. Other duties can be assigned as required. REPORTS TO:   Senior Outreach Coordinator, Ethiopia DURATION:   6 months initial contract CONTRACT:    Local terms and conditions. Only eligible for Ethiopian Nationals or those legally able to work in Ethiopia Job Requirements Skills, Knowledge and Experience: First Degree in any field of Social Sciences. At least 2 years’ experience in community mobilization at grassroots level. Experience working on media and communications is an advantage Previous work experience on health/ WASH is also an advantage. Strong interpersonal and community facilitation skills. Fluency in spoken and written Amharic or Afaan Oromo is an added advantage Fluency in spoken English. Experience providing training, specifically facilitation training strongly desired. Strong commitment to, and understanding of, development issues in Ethiopia. Anticipates and provides sound arguments to support ideas/actions/initiatives.   2.      Research Officer Overall Purpose of Job: Responsible for undertaking research activities as directed by the Senior Research Officer. The Research Officer will be responsible for, in coordination with the Senior Research Officer, planning and delivering the research activities of the Baby WASH projects in SNNPR, Amhara and Oromia Regions according  to schedule and to the required standards of the BBC Media Action. Main Duties: Working on a range of research on the Baby WASH projects and employing different research methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative). Working closely with the Senior Research Officer, project management and production teams locally, to ensure research continually informs our work. Developing and refining research instruments, such as questionnaires and discussion guides, and overseeing the piloting and implementation of these instruments. Overseeing and monitoring data collection Processing and analysing both quantitative and qualitative data, and reporting in line with organisational and donor requirements. Conducting and overseeing the collection of qualitative data using, for example, in-depth interviews and focus groups. Recruiting and training local guides, as required. Conducting pre-testing of media content among target audiences and reporting results to production teams. Explaining complex ideas and findings in a way that can be easily understood by the project team as well as other stakeholders; Keeping up to date with developments in policy and social issues, as well as innovations in qualitative and quantitative research methods; REPORTS TO:   Senior Research Officer DURATION:  6 months CONTRACT:  Local terms and conditions. Experience in development and research work, with demonstrable experience in research implementation (mixed methods) and analysis. Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research Familiarity with standard software packages, preferably including SPSS.
