The Post-Harvest Consultant will be working on the growth ambitions of Royal FloraHolland in Ethiopia in the broad field of Quality. This involves different job aspects in which he\she will be involved. He\she will be responsible for the quality consulting service from growers in Ethiopia, he\she will be active in quality and operations control for shipments from the Global Sourcing Services department in East Africa and finally he she will work on Royal FloraHolland developments projects in the field of sustainability, LEAN management and logistics. The Post-Harvest Consultant reports both to the Post-Harvest Manager of the central quality and knowledge center in the Netherland and to the Commercial Manager from the East African Office.
The Post-Harvest Consultant represents Royal FloraHolland on the topic of Post-Harvest/quality within Ethiopia. This includes Post - Harvest consulting services.
Sell and perform Post-Harvest consultancy towards horticulture producing farms in Ethiopia.
Best-in-class performance of paid quality services to growers
Acquisition of new growers for paid quality services, prepare acquisition and actions plans, making professional commercial proposals
Continuous development and improvement of (paid) quality services, together with the Knowledge center in the Netherlands.
Audit post-harvest-processes and recommending on areas of improvement to growers
Develop and train growers on quality standard operating procedures.
Raise awareness of growers on the importance of cool chain management and train them on implementation of cool chain practices
Monitor cool chain systems to ensure adherence to best practice and maintenance of high quality produce
Analise persistent issues with produce, establish the cause and come up with practical ways of addressing the issues by training the relevant implementer.
Ensure growers use proper packaging material which reserves product quality
Grow the service offering to existing and seek to grow the existing client from existing network.
Global sourcing service quality support
Ensure clients orders are well prepared and delivered by farms according to quality specification
Verify and control quality of delivery and forwarding processes from farm to the Airport handling facilities at detailed level. From this verify the quality of the deliveries themselves
Be in charge of corrective measures when deviations/problems are being noticed. Steer on direct actions and execute forward planning and measures to prevent future deviations and problems
Establishing reporting and feedback to farms, logistical handlers, clients and other FloraHolland departments. From reporting initiate actions from the team.
Pro-actively develop new SOP’s applicable to different parties in the supply chain accordance to client sourcing requests. Actively enforce these SOP’s.
Be a knowledge expert on operational control and implementation in the floricultural industry, act in this role to other stakeholders in the sector.
Act hands-on and work side by side with the Global Sourcing Team East Africa to get the jobs done with our external client.
Project contribution from Post-Harvest \ Quality perspective
Participate in research and implementation projects from the Royal FloraHolland organization on Post-Harvest \ Quality related topics.
Cooperate on projects involving quality (improvements) on different topics in Ethiopia
Conduct research on topics like sustainability, supply chain control and LEAN management in a project team environment.
Active contribution to discussions with industry stakeholders, such as EHPEA, EHDA and Ethiopian Airlines
Professional cooperation with FloraHolland colleagues in the Netherlands and Kenya from different departments
Implement project outcomes within the industry – at farms or stakeholders
Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or closely related field
Experience in, and knowledge of the flower/floriculture industry and Post-Harvest technologies
At least 4 years working experience in a Post-Harvest environment in the agriculture industry
Good communication and training skills
Fluent in English language (written/spoken)
Good computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office)
46 working hours per week
Prepared to do regular upcountry trips (overnight)
Valid Driving license
Certificate of good conduct
