Ipas Ethiopia is an international non-profit organization working to improve women’s lives with focus on reproductive health. Ipas’s mission is to increase woman’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and reduce abortion related morbidity and mortality. The key programmatic and strategic directions that guide the organization’s functions include:

  • Expand access to safe abortion and contraceptive services to women especially young women and improve quality of care in both public and private health sectors
  • Expand women’s and young women’s awareness of their options and their ability to prevent and manage unwanted pregnancy
  • Increase sustainable supply of abortion related technologies, particularly MVA and medical abortion
  • Active Contribution to creation of an enabling environment for comprehensive abortion care and contraceptive services and increase commitment and resources by stakeholders

In light of the need to strengthen our relationship with stakeholders and expedite programme implementation, we are planning to hire the following position

Job Title: Regional Program Coordinator
Place of Work: Oromia
Reported to: Health System Advisor for Oromia region
Terms of employment: One year with possibilities for extension
Salary: Negotiable

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The regional program coordinator will serve as ipas’s focal person in Oromia region. Based in the premises of the regional health bureau, the incumbent will coordinate ipas’s work in the region by closely working with partner organizations to expedite project implementation. S/he is expected work closely with the staff of the regional health bureau and create positive working environment in discharging her/his responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities as per the plan of action jointly developed with the regional health bureau
  • Organize and conduct the training of health providers in the region
  • Ensure that project supplies are timely distributed to health facilities and maintain appropriate records
  • Maintain a database of trained providers in the region
  • Undertake periodic visit to health facilities and facilitate the resumption and continuous delivery of services
  • Establish a system of collecting and compiling data on service utilization from facilities to the responsible bodies within the health system and submit quarterly reports to Ipas
  • Closely follow-up and support regional training centers as port of the effort to build regional self-sufficiency in training health providers
  • Assist in disseminating and implementation of the technical and procedural guideline for safe abortion services issued by Ministry of Health in ipas’s focal areas
  • Work closely with model clinics ensure organization and delivery of quality safe abortion care integrated with other RH services
  • Compile periodic reports

Core Requirements:

  • BSC in health with a minimum of 3+ years work experience
  • Relevant experience in health program management
  • Good grasp of the national policies and strategies pertaining to reproductive health
  • Demonstrated team player with cross-cultural/language skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Oromiffa
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Established positive rapport with the management of the respective regional health bureau
  • Demonstrated skill and experience on information communication technologies (ICT) and other audio visual materials is on asset.
