Project Team Leader

The Lutheran World Federation, Department for World Service (LWF/DWS)


The Lutheran World Federation Word Service Ethiopia (LWF/WS Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia.  LWF is currently looking for a highly motivated and competent professional to fill in the Project Team Leader post.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select vulnerable communities and project priority groups jointly with the regional projects coordinator, project staff, local government representatives and communities for climate and disaster vulnerability analysis and pilot demonstration adaptation and disaster actions;
  • Support the target groups to plan and implement DRR interventions in the program areas by supporting community and local level disaster management committees, livelihood groups, and other stakeholders;
  • She/he will support the implementation of sustainable action for resilience and food security, through cluster level facilitation and strategic technical supports;
  • She/he ensures successful integration and mainstreaming of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction activities into local development and sectoral planning processes;
  • She/he will also provide technical backstopping and facilitation, work closely with the other field staff, cluster based stakeholders, networks, and community members to ensure achievement of objectives in timely and cost effective manner;
  • She/he is primarily responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluating the overall interventions of the project in livelihood, WASH and DRR in close coordination and consultation with the Bale Regional Coordinator;
  • She/he facilitates integration of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation processes;
  • She/he will support partners to promote livelihoods, health, nutrition, gender, and NRM linkages with DRR and coordination among the communities in the project area;
  • She/he will carry out surveys and identification of livelihood development constraints and suggest possible recommendations to the regional projects coordination.    

Project: Increasing Resilience & Economic Opportunities in Drought Prone areas of Bale Zone (RESET II)

Employment Term:  One year with possibility of extension



Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Disaster Risk Management (DRM) or any relevant field of studies from a recognized university
  • 3 years of practical experience in rangeland management, DRM, community capacity building and livelihood interventions.

Additional Requirement

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Interested to work under pressure and in harsh environment
  • Ability to speak and listen Oromifa language is essential
  • Ability to interact with people
