Senior Program Coordinator
Background: Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Ethiopia carries out a wide range of programs to support the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia in improving the health status of the people by ensuring access and quality of health services. We are committed to increasing our effectiveness through a program approach that optimizes quality, impact and scale. Being the largest CHAI field office worldwide, we currently employ over one hundred and sixty program and support staff. Currently CHAI Ethiopia is implementing the following nine programs: Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health (RMNH), Child Survival , Vaccine , Health Financing , , Human Resource for Health (HRH) ,Laboratory , HIV/AIDS , Cancer and Nutrition .
Apparently, all these programs must be coordinated, controlled and supported by the Country Director. With the growth of the span of control and other responsibilities of the Country Director, additional assistance is needed to effectively manage and lead the 9 programs. Hence the need for recruitment of a senior program coordinator well versed with program management in health sector.
JOB SUMMARY: The senior program coordinator assists the CD to coordinate, direct, control, lead and manage all the 9 programs under the country director. With delegation and direction of the country director the senior program coordinator communicates with global programs and partners (governmental and non-governmental) here locally. The senior program coordinator assists the CD in developing, and reviewing documents pertaining to project proposal, reports and manual.
REPORTS To: The Country Director
Duty Station: In Addis Ababa
Assists the CD in leading annual planning processes with close collaboration of the M&E team With the delegation of the CD, the senior program coordinator assists the CD in:
Leading meetings pertaining to M&E (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual)
Attending the review meetings of programs
Meeting with governmental and non-governmental partners and global program managers.
Communicating with global program managers, governmental and non-governmental partners.
Representing CHAI in external meetings.
Making field work visits or travels abroad
With close guidance of the CD leads project proposal development
Reviews different documents such as project proposals, report, manuals, guidelines, etc.
Working with each program manager ensures alignment and collaboration of all the programs and supervises all the programs in the field.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Public Health PHD or Medical Doctorate degree and having Master’s in Public Health Management is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in public health project management, and coordination
Strong program management experience including managing work, people, finance and asset.
Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment
Ability to work independently on complex projects and solve challenging problems with limited structural or operational support
Ability to multi-task and to be effective in high-pressure situations, and able to adapt to fast-paced and changing environments, both internally and externally
Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong writing skill in English
Skill and knowledge in program/project M&E is preferred
Ability to work in a team to handle other joint responsibilities of the scale up program
Strong problem solving skill
Strong analytical skills and technical proficiency with Microsoft office :Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is essential
