Purpose of the position:

The Mass Drug Administration (MDA) Manager will work under the direction of the Project Director and will be responsible for managing intensified mass drug administration activities. S/he is responsible for supply chain management, plan and manage the periodic drug distribution; create the required local capacity for drug distribution and community mobilization.

S/he will be responsible for monitoring the MDA coverage with the required technology with other partners engaged in the SCH/STH Transmission Break Project.

Major Responsibilities:

·         Manage the planning, implementation and monitoring of the MDA within the designated budget, schedule and geographic area.

·         Ensure that the implementation of the MDA is in compliance with donor’s requirements, WV and government policies and global standards.

·         Ensure that the MDA is carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the established national guidelines and procedures.

·         Engage in and ensure proper liaison and networking with government, NGOs and other partners of the SCH/STH Transmission Break Project.

·         Ensure that drug requirement for MDA is properly planned and forecasted for procurement and distribution with the required budget and timeline for supply chain.

·         Ensure that drug storage warehouses in Addis Ababa and at Wolaita Soddo are up to the standard for drug storage and and/or health centers have the accurate drug stock cards (IM).

·         Oversee all the drugs are cleared as per the schedule in all stores and ensure all targeted population treated as per the timeline. 

·         Provide leadership and support for the partner responsible for the biometrics data collection and monitoring.

·         Develop training material and ensure that the involved government staffs at all levels for the MDA are capacitated and strengthened for MDA policy and strategy, institutional arrangements, coordination and service delivery.

·         Engage in the preparation of the annual operation plan of the MDA and ensure timely submission of standardized quarter, biannual and annual accomplishment reports.

·         Represent the organization in available MDA related forums, net workings and governmental, non-governmental and bilateral organizations

·         Engage in and ensure that appropriate human resource performance monitoring mechanisms with proper coaching and mentoring are practiced to enhance smooth staff relations and accountability.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Have M.A/M.Sc., BA/B.Sc. in Pharmacy/Pharmacology/Pharmaceutics or other related fields.
  • Experience: 4 years for Masters/ 8 years for Bachelors in MDA, drug supplies and other related health programs.

    Other: Ethiopian MDA program working with FMoH and PFSA preferred

Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential,
  • Demonstrated ability to manage supply chain processes and maintain accurate records;
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in a timely manner;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks to meet deadlines;
  • Fair knowledge of custom clearance and supplies management;
  • Excellent communication, analytical and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of or interest in humanitarian programs, as well as a commitment to WV mission, vision and core values;

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment:  Office-based 40%
  • Travel:  60% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: 40%
