Who are we ? :

Present in Ethiopia since 1988, Inter Aide is involved in the design and implementation of development projects in rural areas, with today:

  • A major program of scaling up in mountainous territories of actions to combat erosion and support livestock farming, in support of the government
  • Also an ambitious scaling-up program aimed at developing access to water and water point maintenance services in mountainous areas
  • Support for the Ethiopian organization RCBDIA to help farming families diversify their production around coffee and better promote their production on an organic and fair trade market.

These programs are mainly implemented in two new regions of Ethiopia (Central Ethiopia and Southern Ethiopia), which previously belonged to the SNNPR Southern Region.

Mission presentation

This mission is part of the first program which aims to help families and local stakeholders to preserve the conditions for sustainable agriculture/livestock farming in these mountainous areas, by implementing soil and water conservation measures, developing fodder resources and agroforestry practices.

As a technical advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the program's monitoring and evaluation system, strengthening the capacities of local institutions and community stakeholders to plan and monitor achievements in their territory, and helping all stakeholders in decision-making by taking into account the specificities of each of the three administrative zones covered (Wolayita, Kembatta-Tembaro and Hadiya). You will support the project team and the coordinator in implementing the project:

Your main responsibilities will be:

1. Support the establishment of measures to monitor programme results, data collection and analysis:

  • Review the existing monitoring mechanism and standardize processes.
  • Develop the general framework for project monitoring and impact measurement.
  • Clarify and identify essential training needs.
  • Support project managers in strategic choices based on observations and analyses carried out.

2. Continue measuring the effects of the project on the situation of families and soil conservation:

  • Continue to carry out longitudinal surveys taking into account their socio-economic level.
  • Carry out and share analyses aimed at highlighting the effects of the project.

3. Facilitate the provision, understanding and use of data relating to project activities:

  • Allow the different levels (communities, rural municipalities, Zones, Region, etc.) to organize the actions to be implemented in their territory.
  • Support these structures in setting up decision-making processes based on the data collected.
  • Train the project teams to support these different stakeholders.

4. Support the training of focal persons from the Ministry of Agriculture for monitoring and evaluation of activities:

  • Facilitate the transfer of feedback and monitoring/evaluation within government.
  • Support the design, implementation and analysis of sample-based surveys.
  • Guide Ministry of Agriculture staff in preparing their progress reports.

5. Support communication and advocacy to disseminate the project’s innovative activities:

  • Document best practices, results and impacts of the intervention.
  • Design and publish various documents.
  • Facilitate experience sharing workshops.

Profile :

  • You have training in rural development, project monitoring and evaluation and/or agriculture;
  • You are fluent in English (level C1 minimum);
  • You are proficient in Excel and knowledge of KoBo and QGis is a plus;
  • You have at least 3 years of practical experience in operating, managing or organizing rural development projects;
  • You have practical experience in monitoring and evaluating rural projects;
  • You are a teacher and have experience in developing training modules;
  • You are dynamic, independent and able to make suggestions.

The conditions:

  • VSI status mission for 24 months, renewable
  • Monthly allowance of 1400 and land allowances
  • Full social security coverage (CFE - mutual insurance) and repatriation insurance
  • A return plane ticket at the start and end of the mission from home to the mission location + an annual return plane ticket from the mission location to Inter Aide headquarters.
  • Possibility of departure as a couple
