GIZ Job Vacancy – Internship

Since 2004, GIZ has been a reliable and trusted partner of the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With around 250 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialised institutions and agencies, such as the Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 40 member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Governance, Sustainable Economic Growth, Health and Social Development, as well as Just Transition. 

The GIZ African Union Office headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with further staff based in South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania and Germany provides services and support in the areas of procurement, financial management, events and travel, human resources, internal operations, communication and portfolio management to all GIZ programmes and projects that are implemented in partnership with the African Union.

Required qualifications, competences, and experience

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in International Relations, Political Science, Communications, African Studies, or a related field
  • Knowledge or strong interest in AU policies or international development is an advantage
  • Candidates must be allowed to reside and work in Ethiopia; GIZ cannot facilitate the necessary permits

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Strong proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of other AU working languages is an advantage
  • Ability to conduct online research, analyse data, and synthesise complex information
  • Strong writing and editing abilities to create clear, concise, and engaging materials
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proactive, resourceful, and eager to learn.
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work independently
