Background
The Groundwater Access Facility Initiative (GAFA), launched in May 2024, enhances groundwater resource management in the Horn of Africa.
In August 2025, UNDP and CIFF began implementing the Productive Use of Water program pilot phase in Ethiopia’s Somali Region. The project deploys drilling rigs to establish 20 wells, each with solar‑powered pumps and 100,000‑litre storage capacity. These wells will provide safe drinking water to over 150,000 people, support 59 health facilities, and improve water access for 66 schools.
The Logistics Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations, inventory management, and facility administration to make this ambitious project a success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory & Stock Management
- Track and manage inventory for CIFF project
- Maintain accurate documentation and reconciliation
- Manage storage facilities
Shipping & Logistics Administration
- Coordinate shipments and deliveries
- Process shipping documentation and ensure compliance
- Track procurement and shipping activities
Administrative Support
- Assist with reporting on construction work
- Maintain logistics communication among stakeholders
- Support travel management for project staff
- Manage fleet, equipment, and insurance
- Provide event management support
Facility & Safety Management
- Ensure clean and safe facility standards
- Manage equipment at premises
- Promote safety and compliance culture
Recording & Reporting
- Conduct regular asset inventory
- Record and track project assets
- Support knowledge sharing and training activities
- Maintain organized records of project data and field activities
Institutional Arrangement
The Logistics Assistant reports to the Project Manager, with oversight from the Operations Manager/Team Leader – Climate Resilient and Environmental Sustainability Unit. Collaboration with procurement, finance, programme teams, and field partners is essential.

Education

Experience
- 4 years (secondary education) or 1 year (bachelor’s degree) in logistics/supply chain management
- Valid driving license mandatory
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Experience in inventory, asset, and fleet management
- Facility management and protocol handling experience
- Proven driving experience with UN or international organizations
- Familiarity with Somali Regional State context is an advantage
Language
- Fluency in English and national language of duty station required
