About the Project

The RECAP Project is a three-year initiative working across Ethiopia and Kenya to strengthen resilience in cross-border communities affected by climate change, conflict, fragile livelihoods, and disaster risks. VSO Ethiopia is recruiting two National Volunteers to support peacebuilding, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and sustainable livelihoods in Moyale and Miyo Districts.


Available Roles

1️⃣ Peacebuilding & DRR Advisor

Role Purpose:
Support conflict-sensitive peacebuilding jobs in Ethiopia and disaster preparedness interventions. Strengthen community peace mechanisms, enhance resilience to climate shocks, and promote peaceful coexistence in cross-border areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate community peace dialogues, mediation, and confidence-building initiatives.
  • Strengthen local peace committees and cross-border platforms.
  • Support community-based DRR activities, including risk assessments and contingency planning.
  • Promote integration of indigenous knowledge and scientific data in DRR strategies.
  • Conduct training on peacebuilding, social cohesion, and disaster preparedness.
  • Monitor conflict trends and document lessons learned.

2️⃣ Livelihood Officer

Role Purpose:
Support the implementation of livelihood officer jobs in Ethiopia to strengthen household and community resilience through sustainable livelihood diversification, income-generating activities, and market linkages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement climate-smart agriculture, livestock-based livelihoods, and IGAs.
  • Mobilize and support community groups, especially women and youth.
  • Facilitate training on financial literacy, savings, and enterprise management.
  • Promote environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient livelihood practices.
  • Support livelihood initiatives that foster social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
  • Collect and report livelihood-related data, success stories, and lessons learned.

Qualifications & Skills (for both roles)

  • Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, Development Studies, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in community development, peacebuilding, DRR, or livelihoods.
  • Strong community mobilization and facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in English; Afan Oromo language skills highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in remote, cross-border settings.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, email).
