The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a leading humanitarian organization working to protect the rights of displaced and vulnerable people. NRC Ethiopia is currently recruiting qualified candidates for two assistant-level positions in Shire:

  • Livelihood and Food Security (LFS) Social Support Officer
  • WASH Social Support Officer

Both roles focus on supporting vulnerable communities, ensuring accountability, and delivering humanitarian programs with transparency and impact.


1. Livelihood and Food Security Social Support Officer (Job ID: 20415)

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies and project guidelines.
  • Support beneficiary selection, verification, and registration.
  • Conduct household verification visits to identify vulnerable groups.
  • Establish and manage complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Lead community mobilization during cash distributions.
  • Support self-help groups and income-generating activities.
  • Promote equal participation of IDPs, returnees, and host communities.
  • Prepare reports and maintain proper documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Social Sciences or related fields.
  • Minimum of 1 year in livelihood, food security, cash assistance, or community mobilization.
  • Experience working with government authorities and vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Fluency in Tigrigna; fair understanding of English.

2. WASH Social Support Officer (Job ID: 20414)

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact between NRC and project participants.
  • Support beneficiary selection, verification, and registration.
  • Conduct household verification visits to prioritize vulnerable groups.
  • Establish and manage complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Lead community mobilization during NFI/cash distributions.
  • Collaborate with WASH and shelter teams to implement program activities.
  • Prepare reports and maintain proper documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hydraulics Engineering, Water Engineering, Civil/Construction Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year in humanitarian organizations, preferably in WASH, shelter, or community mobilization.
  • Experience working with government authorities and vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Fluency in Tigrigna; fair understanding of English.
