AKAM is currently seeking qualified professionals to join its new project the will be implemented from  up to December 2029 in Ambo, Dendi, Dawo and Woliso districts of the Oromia Region with the fund obtained from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Welthaus Bielefeld e.V, Germany. Job Post : Project Officer

The Project Officer will work closely with AKAM project staff to coordinate planning and implementation, monitor progress, and facilitate learning across activities such as women’s empowerment, gender equality, livelihoods, agroecology, energy, WASH, and strengthening community structures. Reporting to the Executive Director, the role requires managing multiple deliverables under tight deadlines, demonstrating initiative, proposing practical solutions, and working proactively and independently to achieve project objectives. The duty station is Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to the project sites.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and execution of project plans in line with agreements, timelines and budgets, ensuring coherent coordination and quality delivery across all activities.
  • Organise and oversee training sessions, learning events, stakeholder meetings and workshops, and guide continuous learning and improvement within project teams and communities.
  • Manage project personnel, monitor project spending, and ensure that financial and material resources are utilised efficiently and in alignment with project objectives.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with government structures, community organisations and partner institutions, while strengthening networks at national and international levels.
  • Track progress, organise reviews and learning events, document and share good practices, produce timely reports, and prepare proposals for new funding opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project staff and ensure quality of outputs.

Job requirements:

  • Education: Master’s degree in agriculture, management, economics, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in project management, M&E, preferably in an NGO environment
  • Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic.
  • Significant competency in use of Powerpoint, Word, and Excel and data management
