Responsibilities

Key accountabilities and decision ownership: 

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL/PLSQL procedures and ETL pipelines for data ingestion and campaign logic.
  • Build and support data mart models to enable advanced analytics and customer segmentation for CVM campaigns
  • Design and maintain containerized deployments (e.g., Docker) and ensure reliability of operational pipelines across development, test, and production environments.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or ArgoCD to enable rapid and stable deployment of campaign logic and platform updates.
  •  Monitor and troubleshoot CVM application workflows, including offer delivery failures, campaign orchestration issues, and job schedule errors.
  • Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) for scalable platform setup and recovery.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, IT, and engineering teams to support end-to-end campaign delivery, system upgrades, and change requests.
  • Use tools like Git for version control and collaboration and provide clear documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure proactive monitoring, alerting, and resolution of production issues and performance bottlenecks in the CVM platform.
  •  Assist with data governance, quality checks, and audit compliance for data used in CVM campaigns.
     

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data development, ETL workflows, or campaign platform operations.
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or equivalent container orchestration systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, ArgoCD, FluxCD), Git-based workflows, and automation scripts.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL/PLSQL, with ability to write and debug complex queries and stored procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux server administration and shell scripting for job automation and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and deployment on virtualized or hybrid environments.
  • Experience in monitoring tools, log analysis, and root cause analysis for system incidents.
  • Understanding of customer lifecycle platforms, CVM campaign orchestration, and telecom marketing flows is a plus.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Ansible) is highly desirable.
  • Coding experience using Java/python/R/SQL/ PLSQL
  • Experience in collecting, storing, processing and analysing large volumes of data.
  • Proficient understanding of databases at the logical, physical, and conceptual levels
    Eligibility Criteria:
  • Must have assumed current Safaricom role for a minimum of 12 months period.
  • Employees are strongly advised to discuss their career aspirations with their line managers when they apply for vacant jobs.

  • Please be aware that promotions (band increments) may lead to changes in financial rewards. However, lateral moves only result in changes to job title and reporting lines.
