Job Summary

Cheshire Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to join its Finance and Procurement Directorate. Under the guidance of the Finance Team Leader, the Accountant will be responsible for processing and reconciling accounting transactions, maintaining financial records, supporting internal controls, and ensuring timely disbursements and reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process all accounting transactions including operating and office expenses promptly and accurately
  • Maintain up-to-date account reconciliations and resolve outstanding items
  • Organize and maintain supporting documentation and invoices
  • Prepare payment vouchers and issue cheques against approved payments
  • Facilitate timely disbursement of funds and resolve finance-related issues
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and monitor expenditure against the budget
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures
  • Record financial data using Peachtree Accounting System
  • Reconcile bank statements with financial records
  • Prepare and update employee payroll
  • Maintain registers for cash floats, loans, and salary advances
  • Monitor bank cash flow and ensure fund availability
  • Ensure all payroll deductions and statutory payments (e.g., withholding tax) are made on time
  • Verify expenditures for budgeting, documentation, and correct account allocation
  • Maintain proper filing of all financial source documents and records
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Education:

  • BA Degree in Accounting or Finance (mandatory)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Hands-on experience with Peachtree Accounting Software is essential
