About the AU SEWA Project
The African Union Commission (AUC), with support from the European Union, is implementing the Space for Early Warning in Africa (SEWA) project under the AU-EU Space Partnership Programme.
The goal of SEWA is to strengthen Africa’s capacity in using space-based data and technology for early warning systems related to hazardous weather and climate events. The project focuses on:

Expanding access and use of Earth Observation (EO) data and weather prediction services.

Establishing the African Meteorological Satellite Application Facility (AMSAF).
-
Delivering impact-based forecasting tools.
-
Enhancing institutional coordination on weather and climate early warning.
-
Building human and technical capacity across the continent.
Job Purpose
The Administrative Assistant will provide programmatic, logistical, and administrative support to the SEWA Project Coordinator. The role ensures smooth planning, execution, and reporting of project activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Support day-to-day implementation of the SEWA programme.

Provide administrative and logistical support to programme staff and stakeholders.

Monitor programme budget execution and provide financial information.
-
Draft correspondence, reports, and justifications as required.
-
Organize meetings, prepare documentation, and follow up on decisions.
-
Maintain confidential and policy records.
-
Provide logistical support for international meetings, workshops, and missions.
-
Maintain up-to-date filing systems for project documents and correspondence.
-
Support coordination of SEWA events and forums.
-
Assist in preparing background materials for programme activities.
-
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Education:
-
Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Business Management, Business Administration, or related fields with at least 3 years of relevant experience; OR
-
Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with at least 2 years of experience.

Experience Requirements:
-
Strong background in administrative support, office management, and logistics.
-
Experience in project management involving multi-stakeholder institutions (AU Member States, RECs, partners) is an advantage.
-
Familiarity with fields related to meteorology, climate change, or environmental management is desirable.
-
Knowledge of SAP systems is a plus.
-
Previous experience with the African Union, UN, or other international organizations is highly valued.

Contract & Remuneration

Tenure: One (1) year fixed term, with a three-month probation period. Renewable subject to performance and funding.

Salary:

Internationally Recruited Staff: USD 55,174.63 (annual lump sum, inclusive of allowances).

Locally Recruited Staff: USD 22,656.97 (annual lump sum, inclusive of allowances).
