Role Overview

The Accountant Assistant supports the financial and accounting operations of the country office in Addis Ababa. The role involves processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with reporting and analysis to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient use of resources in support of the Alliance’s research and development goals.


Main Responsibilities

  • Review travel authorizations, expense claims, invoices, and receipts in SAP Concur and offline.
  • Verify completeness and appropriateness of supporting documentation for payments.
  • Register and process financial transactions in Agresso/OCS systems.
  • Prepare bank letters for signatories and assist in cash flow forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly imprest fund requests and ensure payment vouchers reflect correct codes.
  • Track staff accounts and follow up on liquidation of work advances.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and support monthly financial reporting.
  • Assist with statutory and donor audits by providing documentation.
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical financial records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Country Office Administrator.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in accounting, finance, or related field.

Experience

  • BA degree with 2 years relevant experience; or Diploma with 5 years relevant experience.
  • Work experience in an international NGO or international organization.

Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial control procedures.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Agresso/Unit4 or OCS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, integrity, and confidentiality.

Duty Station

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Salary & Benefits

  • Minimum base salary: Birr 35,071 per month.
  • Appointment: One‑year renewable contract based on performance and funding.
