NRC is recruiting a Cleaner/Cook to support its office operations in Jijiga. This role combines cleaning and cooking responsibilities to ensure a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for staff and visitors.


Position: Cleaner/Cook

Key Responsibilities

Generic Duties

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required.
  • Promote ideas for improvement and perform according to work plans.

Cleaning Duties

  • Daily floor care: vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and spot‑cleaning carpets.
  • Maintain cleanliness of washrooms and common areas; ensure supplies (tissue, soap, air fresheners) are stocked.
  • Clean windows, offices, and kitchen areas.
  • Wash utensils and sanitize surfaces and furniture.
  • Remove trash and empty waste bins regularly.
  • Serve tea and refreshments to staff and visitors.

Cooking Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks) based on office meal plan.
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and clean cooking surfaces/equipment.
  • Monitor kitchen stock and notify admin for restocking.
  • Follow food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Serve meals at scheduled times.

Qualifications

Professional Competencies

  • Experience as service support staff in humanitarian/recovery contexts.
  • Previous work in complex and volatile environments.
  • Documented results in cleaning/cooking roles.
  • Some knowledge of English.
  • Creative and flexible in food preparation.
  • Presentable, friendly, patient, and detail‑oriented.

Context‑Specific Requirements

  • Certificate of Secondary Education.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with INGOs in similar roles.
  • Minimum 2 years’ institutional food preparation experience.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
