Job Summary
The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) is seeking a Senior Researcher I. The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 70% of their time to research and 30% to publications. This role requires a versatile professional capable of leading independent research and managing the production and quality of EEA’s publications, including the Ethiopian Journal of Economics (EJE).
Key Responsibilities
Research Component (70%)
- Prepare concept notes and grant proposals for funding.
- Design and conduct policy‑relevant research on Ethiopia’s economy (macroeconomy, poverty, trade, agriculture, finance, labor, etc.).
- Author/co‑author working papers, policy briefs, and research reports.
- Present findings at national and international forums.
- Mentor junior researchers and assistants.
- Translate research findings into actionable policy advice.
- Prepare ToRs for research, training, and forums.
- Deliver training sessions to partners.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance to stakeholders.
- Oversee project activities and ensure timely completion.
- Monitor national/international developments related to EEA priorities.
Publications Component (30%)
- Serve as Editorial Manager for the Ethiopian Journal of Economics (EJE).
- Review manuscripts for compliance, formatting, and plagiarism standards.
- Oversee online submission and peer review systems.
- Coordinate double‑blind peer review and track deadlines.
- Support the Editor‑in‑Chief and Editorial Board in policy updates and reviewer recruitment.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Essential: Ph.D. in Economics or closely related field.
- Desirable: Experience in editorial roles in journals/publications.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years post‑Ph.D. experience in research or academic publishing.
- Proven track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience in academic journal management and online submission systems (OJS, Scholar One, Editorial Manager).
- Familiarity with peer review processes and ethical guidelines (COPE).
- Prior editorial experience (Managing Editor, Associate Editor, or Editorial Board Member).
- At least four publications in reputable journals indexed in WoS, Scopus, or EconLit (with at least two as corresponding author).
