About the African Union Commission
The African Union Commission (AUC) is implementing the Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Programme with support from the European Union through the Intra-ACP 11th EDF. The programme aims to strengthen disaster risk governance and resilience across Africa, providing support to regional organizations and member states.
The AUC leads continental coordination, policy facilitation, capacity building, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant will provide technical, financial, and administrative support to the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Technical Coordinator, ensuring smooth implementation of programme activities under the Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy Division.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Support programme development, planning, and implementation.

Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Coordinate data collection, reporting, and analysis.

Facilitate communication with stakeholders, partners, and AU member states.

Provide administrative, procurement, and logistical support.

Assist in preparing and reviewing financial documents and reports.
-
Reconcile accounts, ensure compliance with AU Financial Rules and IPSAS.

Prepare payment documents in line with AU regulations.

Support internal and external audit processes.

Participate in Programme Management Unit (PMU) meetings.

Facilitate training on grants management.
-
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
-
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in accounting/finance, with additional exposure to programme management, project planning, or coordination.

Technical Skills:
-
Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
-
Familiarity with IPSAS or similar financial reporting standards.
-
Experience in financial record management and reporting.
Added Advantage: Professional accounting or finance certification.

Contract & Remuneration

Tenure: One (1) year fixed term, with a three-month probation period. Renewable subject to performance and funding.

Salary:

Internationally Recruited Staff: USD 75,024.13 (annual lump-sum, inclusive of allowances).

Locally Recruited Staff: USD 56,563.87 (annual lump-sum, inclusive of allowances).
