WFP Ethiopia Country Office is working with the Government of Ethiopia and other partners to address humanitarian and nutritional food needs. In addition, WFP works with communities to build resilience in social protection. WFP intervention decisions need robust evidence, the evidence generated by WFP can also be used by government and other partners.
Based at the Country Office in Addis Ababa, the Programme Assistance will work under the overall supervision of the Head of RAM and direct supervision of, and reporting to the Programme Policy Officer/GIS Mapping.
POSITION ROLE:
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Head of RAM unit head, the Programme Assistant will help WFP to discover information that may be hidden in vast amounts of data useful for making smarter decisions for the effective service of our beneficiaries.
The special focus of this assignment will be to support data management and mapping activities, providing follow up on GIS and data acquisition and use, preparing questionnaires, providing cleaned datasets for thematic mapping, developing maps, and conducting preliminary analysis through visualization of the products.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
•ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and co-ordinate secondary data collection, data management and reports storage management systems ensuring easily retrievable data and reports are maintained.
2. Track and analyze data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on food and nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
3. Follow up on progress and export collected data for GIS application in close collaboration with the COMET focal person.
4. Update the Geodatabase table to enable mapping using data in COMET and GIS.
5. Plan and codify Food Distribution Points, clinics/health centers and other activity sites to support mapping and other related program needs.
6. Working for GIS and Information Knowledge Management focal point in uploading works.
7. Prepare and organize different GIS outputs in different reporting formats.
8. Working as GIS alternate person for preliminary activities (Thematic Maps)
9. Printing maps and Posters using appropriate sizes.
10. Support in the administration and management of administrative boundaries with full coding in the Country Office.
11.Develop operational dashboards analysis as and when required.
12. Carry out any other related duties and responsibilities, as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Completion of secondary school education. University degree in Economics (Agriculture, Development), Statistics, Geography or other related fields is desirable.
Experience:
At least 5 years or more working experience in related activities; experience in collecting geospatial data and reporting findings; Proven experience in digital data capturing; including design, data collection and analysis; Experience in the design and implementation of WFP programs including food security analyses; experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong knowledge of results-based management principles and practices and WFP’s corporate accountability frameworks; Proven knowledge, abilities and skills in the areas of VAM works; use digital visualization platforms, particularly Tableau and GIS. Competencies on ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate and organize one’s own work plan; Resourcefulness, initiative, maturity, tact, advocacy skills; Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, ability to work well in a high-pressure environment.
Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and local languages.
