About DCO‑Africa

Established in July 2019 in Addis Ababa, the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO‑Africa) provides strategic support to 53 Resident Coordinators and UN Country Teams. It helps implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the African Union Agenda 2063.


Position Overview

The Regional Youth Engagement Intern will support youth‑focused initiatives across Africa, contributing to programme analysis, event coordination, knowledge products, and media monitoring.


Key Responsibilities

  • Programme Analysis:
    • Analyze youth engagement across Africa through UN Cooperation Frameworks.
    • Identify youth priorities in national development efforts.
    • Research innovation and digital solutions for youth participation.
    • Document best practices from UN Country Teams and partners.
  • Events & Campaigns:
    • Support organization of regional youth engagement events.
    • Coordinate with Resident Coordinators and UN Country Teams.
    • Prepare concept notes, campaign materials, and event documentation.
    • Engage youth networks and stakeholders for inclusive participation.
  • Knowledge Products & Media Monitoring:
    • Develop briefs, summaries, and key messages on youth engagement.
    • Support inputs for DCO Policy Bulletin.
    • Compile daily news headlines related to Africa and sustainable development.
  • Additional Support:
    • Assist in webinars, meetings, and reporting.
    • Take meeting notes and provide administrative support.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education:
    • Enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s/PhD).
    • Final year of Bachelor’s degree.
    • Recent graduate (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).
  • Preferred Fields: International Relations, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Communications, or related disciplines.
  • Skills:
    • Strong research and analytical skills.
    • Proficiency in digital communications tools.
    • Excellent written and oral communication in English and Amharic.
    • Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams.
