Position Summary
NRC is seeking a WASH and Shelter Technical Assistant to support the implementation of WASH and shelter projects in Tigray. The role involves mobilizing communities, preparing technical documentation, and ensuring quality delivery of WASH and shelter services in line with humanitarian standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines, and project standards.
- Implement delegated WASH and Shelter activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and work plans.
- Mobilize communities and leaders for participatory implementation of WASH and shelter activities.
- Support preparation of BOQs, technical specifications, and drawings.
- Conduct WASH activities in IDP/returnee settlements under the guidance of the WASH & Shelter Officer/Coordinator.
- Mainstream gender, environmental protection, and other cross-cutting issues in project implementation.
- Support technical needs assessments, baseline/endline surveys, and reporting.
- Ensure integration of engineering and soft components across WASH responses.
- Coordinate with WASH teams and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a WASH/Shelter Assistant or in a related humanitarian/development role.
- Experience in project implementation, record keeping, and reporting.
- Knowledge of SPHERE standards and humanitarian principles.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong writing and reporting skills.
- Familiarity with WASH/shelter construction and planning in humanitarian contexts.
Language:
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Fluency in local languages (highly desirable).
