About MSD

Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-profit civic society organization established in 1999 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic and promote socio-economic development in Ethiopia. MSD works with communities, government, and development partners to address issues such as HIV prevention, orphan and vulnerable children support, gender-based violence prevention, migration, child protection, sexual and reproductive health, and environmental protection. MSD is a child-safe organization committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of children and at-risk adults in all its programs.


Position Overview

The Child Protection-Education Coordinator will oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of a UNICEF-supported project in Debre Birhan IDP sites. The role includes managing project staff and budgets, ensuring compliance with child protection policies, building partnerships, and representing MSD in relevant networks and forums.

Reports to: Program Director
Salary: Negotiable, based on organizational scale and project budget
Gender: Both male and female applicants may apply (women are highly encouraged)


Key Responsibilities

1. Program Planning & Implementation

  • Lead project planning and execution across all sites.
  • Ensure alignment with MSD and donor child protection standards.
  • Monitor risks and implement adaptive management strategies.
  • Build the capacity of staff and stakeholders on child protection and PSEA.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Develop M&E frameworks and collect performance data.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring and review meetings.
  • Prepare timely quarterly, biannual, and annual reports.

3. Staff Management

  • Provide training and technical support to project staff.
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies.
  • Foster teamwork and effective communication.

4. Representation & Partnership

  • Build strong partnerships with government, NGOs, and community actors.
  • Represent MSD in UN protection cluster meetings.

5. Financial Management

  • Prepare and monitor project budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and safeguard assets.

Qualifications

  • Education: MA/BA in Sociology, Social Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Pedagogy, or Project Management.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years (MA) / 6 years (BA) relevant work experience, preferably in NGO and humanitarian/IDP settings.
  • Skills: Strong communication, planning, reporting, problem-solving, and partnership-building.
  • Added Advantage: Training in Child Protection, Safeguarding, PCM, and financial management.
