In Ethiopia, FHI 360’s Crisis Response team has been delivering humanitarian support in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Somali regions. We are now expanding operations to Oromia Region, East Borena, in partnership with the Ethiopia-based organization Pastoralist Concern (PC).


Position Overview

We are seeking a Community Mobilization Assistant to support conflict-affected women, particularly survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Under the supervision of the Protection Officer, you will help provide psychosocial support, case management, and community mobilization activities to strengthen prevention and response efforts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Mobilize and engage communities in GBV prevention and response activities.
  • Facilitate awareness campaigns, discussions, and training events.
  • Coordinate with local partners to integrate GBV prevention into their programs.
  • Work with women’s groups, youth, IDP committees, and local leaders to design strategies against GBV.
  • Identify special needs of vulnerable women and refer them for appropriate care.
  • Support community volunteers and committees in providing psychosocial first aid.
  • Establish and strengthen community-based complaint mechanisms for safeguarding.
  • Monitor protection concerns and report findings to relevant actors.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce weekly and quarterly reports.
  • Uphold GBV protection principles and FHI 360’s safeguarding policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Humanitarian Studies, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Law, Political Science, or related field. (Master’s Degree is an advantage.)
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years in GBV protection, counseling, or gender-focused work at the national or international level.
  • Experience working on women’s rights and gender equality.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and accountability frameworks.
  • Fluency in local language(s) and excellent English communication skills.
