Overview
The Freedom Fund is seeking a highly experienced and committed consultant to support the development of transformative leadership within a survivor-led coalition in Ethiopia. This 12-month consultancy aims to co-create a tailored leadership curriculum and deliver capacity-strengthening initiatives to empower survivors of trafficking and exploitation.
The consultant will work closely with the Freedom Fund Ethiopia team and the Freedom Rising Program Technical Advisor to deliver inclusive, trauma-informed, and collaborative leadership development.
Objectives of the Assignment

Strengthen survivor-led leadership through a co-created transformative leadership curriculum.

Build trauma-informed, inclusive, and non-hierarchical leadership capacities.

Support peer mentorship and trust-building within the survivor-led coalition.

Facilitate lasting systemic impact through survivor-driven collective action.
Scope of Work
-
Co-Design Leadership Curriculum
-
Review and contextualize the existing Freedom Rising curriculum.

Integrate survivor voices, local values, and cultural context.

Deliver Capacity-Strengthening Workshops
-
Facilitate interactive workshops on:

Non-hierarchical leadership models
-
Trauma-informed safeguarding
-
Peer mentorship and trust-building ("sisterhood" activities)

Ongoing Mentorship
-
Provide coaching and structured reflection sessions.
-
Foster solidarity, collaboration, and emerging survivor leadership.
Key Deliverables

Inception Report with methodology and work plan

Tailored Leadership Curriculum developed in partnership with survivor leaders

Facilitated Learning Sessions and workshops

Reflection and Learning Reports

Final Synthesis Report including impact assessment and recommendations
Consultant Qualifications
Essential:
-
Experience in transformative and trauma-informed leadership training
-
Strong facilitation skills using non-hierarchical, participatory approaches
-
Proven ability to co-create curricula centered on community and survivor voices
-
Deep understanding of Ethiopia’s socio-political and cultural context
-
Excellent communication in English and Amharic
-
Capacity to mentor grassroots leaders and facilitate reflection and peer learning
Desirable:
-
Experience working with survivors of trafficking or exploitation
-
Knowledge of safer migration and reintegration programs in the Horn of Africa
-
Background in movement-building or community-led initiatives
