About the Project

The Project for Resilient Reconstruction of Conflict‑Affected Communities in Northern Ethiopia, funded by JICA, aims to promote inclusive and rapid recovery in conflict‑affected areas. Pilot activities in Afar will focus on livelihood improvement and education recovery, validating a recovery and development approach that strengthens government capacity and community resilience.

Livelihood Improvement Activities

  1. Natural Resource and Forestry Recovery
  2. Agropastoral and Pastoral Production & Marketing Improvement
  3. Women’s Group Activity for Livelihood Improvement

Education Recovery Activities

  1. Strengthening Parent‑Teacher‑Student Associations (PTSAs)
  2. Back‑to‑School Campaigns
  3. Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for teachers

Role Purpose

The Project Regional Coordinator will manage and coordinate pilot activities in livelihood improvement and education. The role involves planning, monitoring, reporting, and ensuring technical and operational support for quality programming and impact.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure project activities are executed according to policies and plans.
  • Communicate with woreda‑level staff, conduct monitoring, and resolve implementation challenges.
  • Submit periodic reports and maintain updated project information.
  • Support training and stakeholder engagement at community and school levels.
  • Establish productive relationships with schools, woreda offices, and regional bureaus.
  • Coordinate assessments, collect best practices, and prepare reports.
  • Facilitate communication with NGOs/CSOs and other partners.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Livelihood, Education, or related fields (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in project management and coordination in Afar, preferably in recovery, rehabilitation, community development, livelihood, education, or gender.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of Afar socio‑cultural context
    • Proficiency in English and Afar (written and spoken)
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
    • Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting expertise
    • Budget planning and management skills
    • Proficiency in MS Office
    • Understanding of gender, youth, and social inclusion
    • Experience in training program facilitation preferred
