UNICEF Ethiopia 2026 Job Vacancies – JPO Emergency Officer

Open Positions

Position 1: JPO Emergency Officer

  • Employment Type: Full‑time
  • Job Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement public health emergency preparedness plans
  • Conduct risk assessments and contingency planning for disease outbreaks and crises
  • Coordinate emergency responses with government ministries, WHO, NGOs, and UNICEF sections
  • Lead joint assessments and deliver life‑saving interventions (immunizations, disease control, health services)
  • Monitor emergency situations and collect data on affected populations
  • Prepare situation reports and maintain accurate records of interventions and funding
  • Integrate innovative approaches such as digital platforms for surveillance and real‑time data collection
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building for local health authorities and community health workers

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, International Relations, Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, Social Sciences, or related fields. Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years’ relevant experience may be considered.
  • Work Experience: Minimum 2 years with a Master’s, or 4 years with a Bachelor’s, in humanitarian or emergency management, interagency coordination, or related fields. Experience in developing countries required.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of emergency preparedness, crisis response, and donor compliance.
  • Soft Skills: Analytical problem‑solving, collaboration, adaptability, and strong communication skills.

Preferred / Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in a UN system agency or organization
  • Country‑level experience in fragile or humanitarian contexts
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of another UN language or local language is an asset
  • Age limit: Maximum 32 years as of 31 December 2026
