About the Role

MSF-Belgium is recruiting a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations in Korem. The role ensures technical accuracy, compliance with safety protocols, and effective staff supervision to support MSF’s medical activities. The supervisor will manage laboratory personnel, equipment, and quality assurance processes in line with MSF standards and Ethiopian regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily laboratory operations.
  • Ensure compliance with MSF hygiene, safety, and biological risk protocols.
  • Perform laboratory tests (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology) and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Oversee calibration, maintenance, and proper use of laboratory equipment.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and prevent stock-outs; ensure cold chain integrity for samples and reagents.
  • Supervise staff recruitment, training, coaching, and evaluation in coordination with HR.
  • Ensure staff are qualified to operate medical devices and report malfunctions.
  • Prepare and submit regular laboratory reports, including monthly sitreps and quality control documentation.
  • Support outreach teams with rapid testing procedures and compliance monitoring.
  • Maintain certification and update laboratory procedures as required.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • MSc in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science or Laboratory Technology, OR
  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Science or Microbiology.
  • Valid professional license from a recognized government authority.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Laboratory Supervisor.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in laboratory services, with emphasis on quality assurance (ISO 15189).
  • Experience in NGO-supported clinical laboratories is desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Fluency in English (essential); knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office 365 Suite).
  • Results-oriented, flexible, and collaborative.
  • Ability to manage stress and deliver quality work under pressure.
  • Commitment to MSF principles and service orientation.

Salary & Benefits

  • Gross Monthly Salary: USD 1,009
