๐Ÿ“ข About the Opportunity

AFSC seeks an experienced consultant or firm to conduct a strategic regional study focused on youth participation, peacebuilding, and democratic engagement across the Horn of Africa. This 30-day consultancy is part of the โ€œTransforming Lives through Evidence-Based Advocacy and Campaigning for Peaceful Changeโ€ initiative (2024โ€“2026), run in partnership with the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC).

This role is ideal for political analysts, researchers, peacebuilding practitioners, or governance experts with regional experience and a passion for empowering youth voices.

  • Current Peace and Security Trends in the Horn of Africa (2022โ€“2025)
  • Youth Agency & UNSCR 2250: Role of youth in peacebuilding and democratic processes
  • Technology & Digital Activism: Leveraging tech for youth-led civic engagement
  • Case Study โ€“ Kenya 2024 Gen Z Uprising: Lessons learned and regional implications
  • Policy Recommendations for inclusive governance and sustainable peace

โœ… Objectives

  1. Assess conflict trends, election risks (2026โ€“2027), and triggers of instability in the region
  2. Identify enablers/barriers to youth participation in political and peacebuilding spaces
  3. Evaluate how digital tools support or limit youth activism
  4. Deliver actionable recommendations for youth-inclusive peacebuilding strategies
  5. Produce a Kenya-focused case study to inform policy in the Horn of Africa

  • Full analytical report on youth and peace trends across 8 IGAD countries
  • Kenya case study (2024 youth uprising)
  • Policy briefs and advocacy strategies targeting national, regional, and global actors
  • Recommendations on digital inclusion, misinformation, and civic space protection

  • Start Date: August 2025
  • Duration: 30 consultancy days
  • Activities include: inception, data collection, analysis, reporting, stakeholder validation

๐ŸŽ“ Required Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, or related fields
  • 7+ years of experience in conflict analysis, peacebuilding, or governance
  • Extensive knowledge of the Horn of Africaโ€™s political and civic landscape
  • Proven track record working with youth-led civic movements and advocacy
  • Deep understanding of digital activism and barriers to online participation
  • Experience producing high-impact, policy-relevant studies and case reports
