Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI), an international Italian NGO established in 1965, has been supporting vulnerable communities worldwide through humanitarian aid and development projects. COOPI Ethiopia started operations in 1995 and primarily focuses on emergency response, relief, and early recovery programs in:

  • WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene)
  • Food Security and Livelihood
  • Nutrition and Protection
  • Energy and ESNFI (Emergency Shelter & Non-Food Items)
  • CCCM (Camp Coordination & Camp Management)

Currently, COOPI Ethiopia implements 10 projects with over 100 employees across 7 field bases.

COOPI is now hiring a qualified and experienced professional for the following NGO job vacancy in Ethiopia:


Position: Project Logistician

  • Number of Positions: 1 (One)
  • Duty Station: Chifra, Afar Region
  • Contract Duration: 6 months, with possible extension based on performance and funding
  • Salary: Gross 51,066 ETB + 30% hardship allowance
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operations & Logistics Management

  • Oversee procurement, fleet, warehouse, assets, facilities, IT systems, and transport for the field office.
  • Ensure compliance with COOPI and donor logistics policies.
  • Monitor vehicle management, servicing, and dispatch.
  • Supervise transport and storage of procured goods ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Optimize operations for cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Conduct weekly planning meetings with logistics and program teams.
  • Submit timely logistics reports to Field Coordinator and Head of Operations.

2. Representation & Program Support

  • Represent COOPI in the Afar region with government authorities, NGOs, and local partners.
  • Support project managers in grant management, reporting, and compliance.
  • Provide training and capacity building to COOPI staff on logistics and donor procedures.

3. Security Management

  • Ensure staff safety and security compliance in the Afar region.
  • Monitor security context and provide regular updates to Head of Operations and Mission.
  • Implement organizational security policies and protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: BA Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in logistics, with at least 2 years at supervisory level
  • Strong understanding of donor rules, compliance, and reporting
  • Experience in emergency programs, volatile security contexts, and NGO operations
  • Excellent skills in budget control, systems implementation, and staff supervision
  • Fluency in English and Afar language (mandatory)
  • Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in Afar region or similar humanitarian contexts
  • Ability to work under stressful and challenging environments
  • Knowledge of local language and cultural context
