In Ethiopia, FHI 360’s Crisis Response team has been supporting humanitarian emergencies in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Somali regions. The program now extends to the Oromia Region (East Borena) in partnership with Pastoralist Concern (PC) to deliver integrated health, nutrition, WASH, and protection services to affected populations.


Job Summary

The Protection Officer will work under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader to coordinate and implement protection activities. The role involves providing technical guidance, supporting GBV case management, building partnerships, and ensuring protection services are delivered effectively to conflict-affected communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments on GBV protection needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Support design and monitoring of protection indicators and case management programs.
  • Train staff, partners, and community beneficiaries on GBV protection and safeguarding.
  • Coordinate with relevant actors to ensure confidential and safe access to services for survivors.
  • Lead quarterly review sessions with beneficiaries to improve program delivery.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of protection activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Humanitarian Studies, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in GBV protection, counseling, or gender integration at national or international level.
  • Strong knowledge of women’s rights, gender equality, safeguarding, and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English and local language.
