About the Consultancy
IUCN Ethiopia invites qualified consultants to submit proposals for a Baseline Study for the Landscape and Integrated Water Resources Management in the Upper Awash River Basin. This study is part of the Nature-based Solutions for Water in Africa Project, aimed at improving watershed restoration, enhancing water-related ecosystem services, and supporting sustainable landscape management.
Objectives
-
Establish baseline indicators for biophysical and socio-economic parameters in the Upper Awash River Basin, focusing on Sebeta Town Administration and surrounding catchments.

Develop a detailed methodology for baseline data collection and analysis.

Produce GIS-based catchment maps.
-
Prepare a comprehensive baseline report for the catchment.

Provide data and insights to serve as benchmarks for project monitoring and evaluation.
Scope of Work
-
Conduct assessments across seven micro-watersheds: Abayi, Biliqe, Buba, Gogeti, Sombo, Wajitu, and Yabe Soni.

Deliverables include:

Inception Report: Detailed methodology and work plan – Deadline: 20 Sep 2025

Draft Report: Literature review, field data summary, and initial baseline analysis – Deadline: 10 Oct 2025

Final Report: Comprehensive baseline assessment, GIS maps, data collection tools, and annexes – Deadline: 25 Oct 2025
Duration
The consultancy is expected to run for 45 working days from 10 Sep 2025 to 25 Oct 2025.
Required Skills & Experience
Team Leader:
-
Postgraduate degree in Water Resources Management, Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related fields.

Minimum 7 years of professional experience in baseline studies, watershed/landscape restoration, and natural resource management.

Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and delivering high-quality analytical reports.
Team Members:
-
Postgraduate qualifications in GIS & Remote Sensing, Economics, or related fields.
-
At least 5 years of practical experience in environmental assessments, climate change impact assessments, natural resource management, or integrated water resources management.
-
Strong analytical, report-writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
