πŸ“Œ Position Overview

The Safety & Security Assistant will support the Safety and Security Manager in managing humanitarian activities at the field level, ensuring staff safety, and overseeing program operations in Negele Borena.

The officer will take lead on risk assessments, security planning, and coordination with local authorities, international security forums, and emergency services.


πŸ”‘ Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct task-based risk assessments and develop contingency plans.
  • Liaise with host community security agencies and international institutions (UNDSS, INGO Security Forum, Red Cross/Red Crescent).
  • Participate in response to non-routine incidents such as evacuations, medical emergencies, or security threats.
  • Evaluate emergency evacuation routes and resources, including vehicles, aircraft, fuel supply, and roads.
  • Maintain fire safety systems, conduct drills, and ensure availability of firefighting equipment.
  • Conduct routine security surveys and inspections of offices and residences.
  • Manage and supervise FHI 360 security guards, including scheduling.
  • Maintain staff awareness of security procedures and ensure emergency communications are functional.
  • Investigate minor security incidents and prepare reports.
  • Promote a security-conscious culture across the organization.

πŸŽ“ Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Information Management, Business Administration, Political/Social Science, International Relations, or related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in security management, investigation, military, or police work; prior humanitarian experience preferred.
  • Fluent in Amharic and English.
  • Strong knowledge of the local context and unbiased analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel 50% throughout the region.
