In Ethiopia, Save the Children has supported immunization programs for more than two decades, helping reduce child mortality from vaccine‑preventable diseases.

Currently, Save the Children is implementing a GSK‑funded Immunization Program (2023–2027), focusing on zero‑dose and under‑immunized children. The program combines technical expertise in child health with innovative Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) strategies to generate community demand for immunization.


Position: Social Behavioural Change Officer

Role Purpose

The SBC Officer will facilitate and support SBC interventions at woreda and field levels, addressing socio‑cultural and gender barriers to immunization. The role involves technical assistance, capacity building, and collaboration with government partners to strengthen demand generation for immunization services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor SBC interventions to improve immunization service utilization.
  • Conduct assessments on socio‑cultural and gender barriers.
  • Provide technical assistance and training for government and project staff.
  • Develop SBC strategies aligned with government mobilization approaches.
  • Contribute to the design and review of IEC/BCC materials.
  • Document lessons learned and evaluate SBC activities.
  • Engage community leaders, women’s groups, and men’s groups in immunization campaigns.
  • Prepare SBC progress reports, success stories, and donor updates.
  • Promote gender equity and address social norms affecting vaccination.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Public Health, Health Education, Social Psychology, Health Communication, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3 years (degree holders) or 5 years (diploma holders) of experience in SBC projects focused on immunization/child health.
  • Knowledge of SBC theories, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Experience in vaccine demand programming highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and training skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with government partners and technical working groups.
  • Proficiency in English and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, data tools).
