Position Overview
The U.S. Mission in Ethiopia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Security Investigator (Criminal Fraud Investigator) in the Consular Section. The role involves conducting sensitive and complex criminal investigations, including counterfeit travel documents, human trafficking, smuggling, identity theft, bribery, extortion, conspiracy, misrepresentation, and terrorist travel.
Duties
- Conduct routine and complex criminal investigations.
- Build and maintain relationships with police, immigration, airport security, prosecutors, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with U.S. law enforcement agencies and attorney’s offices.
- Manage investigative support requests tied to national security interests.
- Prepare detailed investigative reports and coordinate high‑profile cases.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Law Enforcement, Security, International Relations, Politics, Criminal Justice, Forensics, or Police Science.
Experience
- Minimum of five years in a professional criminal or investigative field within local government or in collaboration with U.S. or other governments.
Language
- Fluent in English and Amharic (speaking, reading, writing).
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of local criminal law, judicial proceedings, and investigative methods.
- Familiarity with criminal organizations’ modus operandi and U.S. travel document fraud trends.
Skills & Abilities
- Critical thinking, independence, and teamwork.
- Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).
- Ability to use investigative software (e.g., i2 link analysis, open‑source tools).
- Public speaking and report writing in English.
- Valid Grade 2 driver’s license for at least 5 years.
