About the Organization
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) works to promote and protect human rights worldwide. This position is based at the OHCHR Regional Hub for East and Southern Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Driver will report to the Programme Management Officer (workstream lead), under the overall guidance of the Regional Director or a delegated representative.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
- Safely transport UN OHCHR personnel, other UN visitors, and authorized individuals in accordance with applicable protocols.
- Deliver parcels, documents, and other materials between the office and external institutions, including ministries, embassies, and permanent missions.
- Make minor purchases and collect urgent supplies from local vendors as requested.
- Collect goods from customs while complying with relevant customs procedures and regulations.
- Meet official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities when required.
- Communicate professionally and tactfully with officials, visitors, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, perform minor repairs, and arrange additional repairs when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, lubrication, and other vehicle maintenance activities.
- Follow the required procedures in the event of a vehicle accident.
- Contribute information to vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Education and Driver Training
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Driver training is required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Work Experience
- Experience working as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
- Experience driving different makes and models of motor vehicles, including vans and vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions, is required.
- Experience performing protocol-related duties, including transporting officials and visitors, is required.
- Experience working within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization is desirable.
Language Requirements
- English is required.
- Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Assessment and Selection
