Job Summary
The Senior Corporate Customer Relationship Officer is responsible for managing and expanding VFMFI's corporate and institutional customer relationships by acquiring new clients, retaining and strengthening existing relationships, mobilizing sustainable financial resources, identifying business opportunities, and delivering timely, high-quality corporate customer service.
The role serves as the primary business owner of corporate customer relationships throughout the customer lifecycle, including prospecting, onboarding, resource mobilization, relationship deepening, maturity and renewal management, and customer retention.
Duties and Responsibilities
Corporate Customer Acquisition & Business Development
- Identify and develop relationships with prospective corporate and institutional customers.
- Conduct systematic market scanning and prospecting to identify organizations with potential for resource mobilization and other business opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective corporate customers.
- Establish relationships with key decision-makers, including CEOs, CFOs, finance managers, and other relevant officials.
- Prepare customer-specific relationship and business-development plans.
- Convert qualified prospects into active VFMFI customers.
Corporate Relationship Management
- Own and manage an assigned portfolio of corporate and institutional customers.
- Establish and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key corporate customers.
- Understand customers' business activities, financial needs, liquidity requirements, and future plans.
- Conduct regular customer visits and relationship reviews.
- Maintain updated customer profiles, relationship history, and business opportunities.
- Serve as the primary relationship contact for assigned corporate customers.
Resource Mobilization
- Mobilize corporate savings, term/fixed deposits, current accounts, and other eligible resources in line with assigned targets.
- Identify opportunities to increase customer balances and strengthen the stability of VFMFI's resource base.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of corporate resource-mobilization opportunities.
- Follow up proactively with customers regarding upcoming deposit maturities.
- Initiate renewal discussions sufficiently before maturity to support retention.
- Identify opportunities to mobilize additional resources from existing customers and their networks.
- Develop referrals and institutional networks that can generate future corporate business.
Relationship Deepening & Business Growth
- Identify opportunities to increase the depth and value of existing corporate relationships.
- Assess customer needs and recommend appropriate VFMFI products and services.
- Cross-sell and promote relevant products and services based on customer requirements.
- Identify opportunities for additional deposits, savings, credit, and digital or other financial services, subject to applicable policies and approvals.
- Monitor customer activity and identify declining relationships or untapped business potential.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to provide appropriate solutions to corporate customers.
Customer Retention & Renewal
- Monitor key corporate customers and identify potential withdrawal or non-renewal risks.
- Engage customers proactively before maturity or major relationship decisions.
- Understand reasons for withdrawals, reduced balances, or non-renewal intentions.
- Develop appropriate customer-retention actions within approved parameters.
- Maintain continuous engagement with strategic customers beyond individual transactions.
- Maintain strong relationships to support repeat business and long-term customer loyalty.
Corporate Customer Service
- Act as the focal relationship person for assigned corporate customers.
- Coordinate timely responses to corporate customer requests and inquiries.
- Follow up on customer service issues until resolution.
- Coordinate with internal departments to address customer requirements within agreed turnaround times.
- Handle complex customer issues and escalate matters requiring management intervention.
- Maintain professional and responsive communication with corporate customers.
Customer Intelligence & Market Development
- Maintain up-to-date information on corporate customers, their business activities, key decision-makers, and financial needs.
- Monitor customer behavior, resource movements, and relationship trends.
- Identify emerging opportunities within customers' business networks.
- Provide management with relevant market intelligence and customer feedback.
- Monitor developments in the financial-services market that may affect corporate customer relationships.
- Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and institutional relationships where relevant.
Corporate Customer Experience & Protection
- Ensure corporate customers receive accurate, transparent, and timely information.
- Identify recurring service problems and recommend improvements.
- Collect and communicate customer feedback to management.
- Ensure customer complaints and concerns are properly recorded, followed up, and resolved.
- Support implementation of customer-protection principles in corporate customer relationships.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all corporate customer relationships comply with VFMFI policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper KYC, customer due diligence, and documentation requirements are fulfilled.
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriate handling of corporate customer information.
- Identify and escalate potential AML/CFT, fraud, operational, reputational, and other customer-related risks.
- Ensure that pricing, approvals, exceptions, and other commitments remain within delegated authority and approved policies.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Monitor performance of the assigned corporate customer portfolio.
- Track resource mobilization, acquisition, retention, renewal, and relationship-deepening performance.
- Maintain an updated corporate customer and prospect pipeline.
- Prepare regular reports on major corporate relationships and business opportunities.
- Provide early warning on significant withdrawals, non-renewals, and relationship risks.
- Provide management with actionable information on corporate customer needs and opportunities.
Teamwork & Internal Coordination
- Work closely with Resource Mobilization, Credit, Finance, Operations, Digital, Customer Service, Compliance, and other relevant functions.
- Coordinate internal support required to deliver corporate customer solutions.
- Share customer intelligence and market opportunities with relevant teams.
- Support and coach junior relationship officers in corporate relationship-management practices where assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training:
- MA/MBA/BA in Banking and Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience:
- Preferably 3–5 years of relevant experience in banking, microfinance, corporate relationship management, resource mobilization, business development, or financial services.
- Demonstrated experience managing corporate or institutional customers.
