In Ethiopia, FHI 360βs Crisis Response team provides emergency assistance in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, Somali, and Oromia regions, focusing on Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Protection.
Position Overview
FHI 360 is seeking a qualified WASH Officer to support its humanitarian operations in Negele Borena, Oromia Region. The officer will work under the supervision of the WASH Coordinator and lead the implementation of public health engineering and WASH promotion activities. The role involves working closely with local government, partners, and communities to ensure that WASH interventions meet international and national standards.
Key Responsibilities

Support the WASH Coordinator in building strong relationships with government offices and partners.

Lead start-up and implementation of planned WASH projects in Negele Borena.

Conduct regular needs assessments to inform programming.

Represent FHI 360 in WASH Cluster meetings and technical working groups.

Supervise field assistants and provide technical guidance.

Oversee rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements in health facilities.

Track budgets and ensure compliance with donor and organizational standards.

Draft and submit internal and external reports in English.

Monitor WASH-related construction activities.

Build the capacity of partners in data collection, water quality surveillance, and WASH standards.

Conduct field visits to IDP sites and host communities for supervision and technical support.
Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 yearsβ experience in humanitarian response projects, preferably with INGOs.

Strong background in public health engineering and WASH promotion in emergency settings.

Experience in conducting rapid assessments and baseline surveys.

Good knowledge of Ethiopiaβs socio-economic and political context.

Strong English and local language skills (both spoken and written).

Ability to represent the organization and engage with stakeholders.

Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.

Familiarity with the UN Cluster System and SPHERE standards.

Knowledge of AutoCAD, WaterCAD, or other engineering software is highly desirable.
