Logistics Assistant (SC-5)

Role Summary

The Logistics Assistant will implement established logistics and supply-chain processes and activities to support the effective delivery of goods and services across applicable delivery operations.

Key Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for supporting and coordinating logistics activities, including:

  • Coordinate with WFP suppliers regarding local purchase production, readiness, and quantities scheduled for uplift.
  • Receive approved dispatch plans from the Country Office Supply Chain team for locations where food commodities are scheduled for dispatch.
  • Coordinate transport and loading plans received from Country Office Logistics to support timely delivery to destinations.
  • Monitor storage capacity at the Bahir Dar transit hub when commodities need to be temporarily stored before dispatch.
  • Ensure dispatches are recorded in LESS and online waybills are issued according to approved uplifting plans.
  • Ensure bag marking is completed before commodity uplifting when food is dispatched to final delivery points.
  • Gather and communicate route information for dispatch locations before transportation begins.
  • Coordinate with destination hubs and follow up on the arrival of food commodities.
  • Conduct market assessments and engage relevant entities to identify potential logistics service providers.
  • Support WFP deliveries and convoys in the Amhara region, including receiving trucks arriving in Bahir Dar from upstream locations such as Semira, Adama, and Djibouti.
  • Prepare and report daily stock uplift information from factories.
  • Follow up on vendor invoicing processes, particularly fleet truck-washing invoices associated with commodity uplifting, and update records in accordance with WFP IPSAS requirements.
  • Monitor commodity accounting and ensure applicable WFP corporate tools are properly used.
  • Ensure fuel transactions for refuelling WFP fleet trucks are recorded in the Fuel Management System (FMS).

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Completion of secondary school education is required.
  • A university degree in a related field is desirable.

Professional Experience

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in logistics or warehousing, particularly in emergency operations.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic is required.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

Candidates should have experience or knowledge in:

  • Maintaining corporate systems and running queries related to logistics activities from operational and commodity-accounting perspectives.
  • Transport allocation and planning.
  • Financial planning, logistics budgeting, and reporting.
  • Working in the humanitarian or nonprofit sector.

Duty Station

Bahir Dar, Ethiopia

The position is classified as Fully Present, meaning the role is based at the duty station rather than remote.

Contract Duration
