Position: Senior Environmental Specialist
Duties & Responsibilities
- Integrate environment, health, and safety due diligence into project design and implementation.
- Guide clients in preparing ESF‑compliant documents (ESCPs, SEPs, LMPs, ESMPs, GRMs, PIMs).
- Provide mentorship on environmental impact assessments, biodiversity management, waste management, dam safety, and occupational health & safety.
- Organize training and capacity building for national agencies and local governments.
- Collaborate with World Bank teams to strengthen environmental and social risk management systems.
- Lead analytical work on risk management and systems strengthening.
- Ensure quality of safeguards and promote ESF streamlining in Ethiopia’s portfolio.
Selection Criteria
- Advanced degree (PhD/Master’s) in environmental/natural sciences or environmental/civil engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in environmental management, including large infrastructure projects.
- Technical expertise in roads, dams, irrigation, and water systems preferred.
- Strong project management and occupational health & safety skills.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and in developing/fragile contexts.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English required.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Ethiopia.
