Position: Logistics Assistant (SC‑5)

Role Overview

The Logistics Assistant will implement well‑defined logistics and supply chain processes to enable effective delivery of goods and services for WFP operations in Ethiopia.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with suppliers on local purchase production and readiness.
  • Receive approved dispatch plans from the Country Office Supply Chain.
  • Ensure transport plans are executed for timely delivery to destinations.
  • Manage storage capacity at Bahir Dar transit hub.
  • Record dispatches in LESS and issue online waybills.
  • Perform bag marking before dispatch to FDPs.
  • Gather route information and update transporters before dispatch.
  • Follow up with destination hubs on commodity arrivals.
  • Conduct market assessments and identify logistics service providers.
  • Support WFP deliveries/convoys in Amhara region.
  • Prepare and report daily stock uplift from factories.
  • Oversee vendor invoicing processes and ensure IPSAS compliance.
  • Monitor commodity accounting and use WFP corporate tools.
  • Record fuel transactions for WFP fleet trucks in FMS.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Completion of secondary school education required; university degree in a related field desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible work in logistics/warehousing, preferably in emergency operations.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Amharic (oral and written).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with corporate systems and commodity accounting.
    • Transport allocation and planning.
    • Financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for logistics.
    • Humanitarian/non‑profit field experience.
