Program Overview

The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU‑YVC), established in 2010, is a flagship continental youth leadership program that recruits, trains, and deploys young African professionals from all AU Member States to serve as professional volunteers for 12 months.

AU‑YVC promotes volunteerism to empower young people as key actors in Africa’s development, enhancing their participation in policy, programs, and initiatives towards Agenda 2063 – “The Africa We Want.”


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Citizen of an AU Member State (living on the continent or in the Diaspora)
  • Aged 18–35 (must be under 35 upon completing service)
  • Post‑secondary qualification (TVET, Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.)
  • Available in 2026/27 for 12 months of volunteer service
  • Willing to live and work in another AU Member State
  • Proficient in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, Spanish)
  • Minimum one year of verifiable volunteering experience and one year of professional work experience

Required Skills

  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work harmoniously in multicultural environments
  • Fluency in one AU official language; knowledge of additional AU languages is an advantage

Volunteer Entitlements

Successful AU Youth Volunteers will receive:

  • Pre‑deployment training and mentorship
  • Economy return ticket to place of deployment
  • Monthly stipend to cover living expenses
  • Health insurance coverage
  • AU Service Passport
  • Separation allowance upon completion of service
  • Networking opportunities with young African leaders
  • Engagement at continental policy and program levels
