About the British Council

The British Council has operated in Ethiopia since 1943, building cultural and educational relations between Ethiopia and the UK. Each year, the Council connects with thousands of students, educators, policymakers, academics, and creatives, with a strong focus on providing opportunities for young people through arts, culture, education, and English language programs.


Role: Head of Arts

The Head of Arts will lead the British Council’s arts and culture initiatives in Ethiopia, fostering collaboration between Ethiopian and UK partners, and using arts as a vehicle for cultural relations and sustainable development.


Requirements of the Role

Minimum / Essential

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience across the Ethiopian cultural scene
  • Strong background in complex project management with diverse partners
  • Experience in financial and narrative reporting
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation
  • Proven ability to work with organizations, practitioners, and communities
  • Interest in and understanding of cultural relations and the British Council’s mission
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines

Desirable

  • Project management qualification
  • Innovative use of digital and social media to connect audiences
  • Experience in arts and culture as a tool for sustainable development
  • Experience in securing funding for cultural programs
