About OSE‑HoA
The United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (OSE‑HoA) is a diplomatic office dedicated to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation across the Horn of Africa region. It supports political dialogue, conflict prevention, and regional collaboration among Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti. The office works closely with governments, regional bodies, and international partners to address challenges related to security, humanitarian issues, and development.
Open Positions
Position 1: Political Affairs Intern
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher), or final year of a bachelor’s program.
- Strong analytical and research skills in political science, international relations, environmental security, or communications.
- Familiarity with the political and security landscape of the Horn of Africa.
- Understanding of climate change, conflict, and security linkages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel; knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, or Adobe InDesign is an asset.
Experience:
- No prior work experience required. Training, education, and coursework should benefit the UN during the internship.
Duty Station: Other Cities, Ethiopia
Position 2: Climate, Peace and Security Intern
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher), or final year of a bachelor’s program.
- Strong analytical and research skills in political science, international relations, environmental security, or communications.
- Familiarity with the political and security landscape of the Horn of Africa.
- Understanding of climate change, conflict, and security linkages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel; knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, or Adobe InDesign is an asset.
Desired Skills:
- Awareness of current challenges related to climate, peace, and security in the region.
- Prior exposure to project management support functions (workplans, monitoring deliverables, budget tracking).
