Position 1: Senior Forest and Landscape Specialist

Role Overview

Provide strategic and technical leadership in designing and implementing integrated, system‑level interventions that transform forest and landscape management in Ethiopia. This senior role ensures HARNESS achieves scalable systems aligned with national policies and global commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated landscape approaches and systemic transformation strategies.
  • Strengthen governance systems across federal, regional, and local levels.
  • Develop deforestation‑free value chains aligned with international standards.
  • Support sustainable financing mechanisms (REDD+, carbon finance, blended finance).
  • Promote inclusive livelihoods for youth, women, and returnees.
  • Guide restoration and climate‑smart land use practices.
  • Document lessons and contribute to global knowledge platforms.
  • Engage government, private sector, and development partners.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of deforestation reduction and livelihood impacts.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Policy, Climate Change, or related field.
  • 10–12 years of relevant experience in forest and landscape management, REDD+, climate finance, and policy engagement.
  • Strong expertise in integrated landscape approaches, governance, sustainable value chains, and climate finance.
  • Knowledge of GIS and digital technologies for land use/cover tracking.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

Position 2: Deforestation‑Free Supply Chain Expert

Role Overview

Provide technical leadership and market systems expertise to design, implement, and scale sustainable, traceable supply chains compliant with international standards. This role ensures Ethiopia’s commodities access global markets while supporting sustainable landscape management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and operationalize deforestation‑free supply chains.
  • Lead traceability systems and certification processes.
  • Strengthen market linkages between producers, processors, and buyers.
  • Promote inclusive business models integrating smallholders, women, and youth.
  • Identify and scale financing mechanisms for sustainable sourcing.
  • Support government institutions in aligning trade and agricultural policies.
  • Document lessons and contribute to global knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain Management, Forestry, Environmental Policy, or related field.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in supply chain development, sustainable sourcing, or market systems strengthening.
  • Proven expertise in traceability systems, certification standards, and compliance with international regulations.
  • Strong private sector engagement experience.
  • Knowledge of Ethiopian trade, agriculture, and forestry policy context desirable.

Position 3: Community Development Facilitator (CDF)

Location: Bale Field Office, Robe Town
Career Level: Senior (5–8 years)

Role Overview

Report to the Project Coordinator and ensure proper implementation of programme activities in the district. Work closely with local government partners, beneficiary communities, and other actors to harmonize and coordinate interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist communities and CBOs in project planning and implementation strategies.
  • Ensure programme activities align with agreed strategy and methodology.
  • Conduct monthly surveys and compile reports on production, forest, watershed, rangelands, and livelihoods.
  • Facilitate inclusion and active participation of women and marginalized groups.
  • Keep local government partners and communities informed and engaged.
  • Monitor outputs and record achievement indicators for evaluation.
  • Support site and beneficiary selection with government partners.
  • Participate in assessments, surveys, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Facilitate field visits and experience sharing.
  • Identify training needs, prepare materials, and deliver training to CBOs.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, or related fields.
  • 5 years of practical work experience.
  • Knowledge of local language (Afaan Oromo).
  • Familiarity with PFM, climate‑smart agri‑value chains, watershed management, and participatory development approaches.
