Position Summary
The Field Coordinator will support the END Fund–funded Trachoma Trichiasis (TT) backlog clearance activities across woredas in Central Ethiopia, with additional support to East Gurage Zone and other END Fund project areas. The role also includes coordinating Trachoma SAFE strategy activities in the region.
The Field Coordinator reports to the Project Manager and supervises the Field Assistant and Driver.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Project Manager, zonal health departments, and woreda health offices to ensure timely achievement of project targets.
- Develop woreda‑based TT surgery plans and coordinate high‑volume, high‑quality TT surgery delivery.
- Ensure TT backlog clearance across all targeted woredas.
- Mobilize trained IECWs for outreach and static TT surgery services.
- Conduct supportive supervision and TT surgery quality assurance activities.
- Coordinate TT case‑finding activities and ensure all cases are identified and addressed.
- Organize review meetings with health departments, woreda offices, and IECWs.
- Maintain strong partnerships with sector institutions, community volunteers, and local agencies.
- Plan and implement quality TT surgery services with IECWs, HEWs, CHAs, and health institutions.
- Support and facilitate training for IECWs, TT case finders, HEWs, and community volunteers.
- Strengthen linkages between zones, woredas, health facilities, communities, and Orbis Ethiopia.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and reports.
- Participate in mid‑term and final evaluations.
- Prepare transition planning documents to integrate TT surgery into the local health system.
- Maintain accurate records, baseline data, and activity documentation.
- Monitor resource utilization and ensure timely submission of activity and financial reports.
- Manage petty cash and ensure timely settlement.
- Support HR compliance requirements and END Fund reporting (HR status, leave, timesheets, etc.).
- Ensure proper documentation of dispatched supplies (Model 19).
- Ensure proper use of Orbis resources and adherence to security protocols.
- Follow fleet management guidelines and ensure timely vehicle maintenance.
- Ensure timely payment of office utilities and proper documentation.
- Support staff safety and security in collaboration with Operations and the Project Manager.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
- MPH or BSc in Public Health, Ophthalmic Officer, or related health fields.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in eye care program implementation.
- Experience in blindness prevention, trachoma, or preventive ophthalmology is an advantage.
- Knowledge of the local language of the project area is an asset.
