About COOPI
Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. COOPI Ethiopia began operations in 1995 and primarily implements emergency, relief, and early recovery programs in WASH, food security, livelihoods, nutrition, and protection. Currently, COOPI manages 10 projects across Ethiopia with 8 field bases and over 100 staff.
Position: Accountant
The Accountant will ensure compliance with donor, government, and COOPI standards in financial management for projects in Setit‑Humera.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure expenditures align with budget codes and project financial plans.
- Record transactions in accounting software after collecting financial documents.
- Verify invoices and payment documents in line with COOPI’s financial manual and donor audit regulations.
- Monitor availability of funds and review payment requests daily.
- Archive supporting documents (hard and soft copies) per COOPI procedures.
- Communicate regularly with Addis Ababa coordination office for payment settlements.
- Send monthly accounting documents and bank statements to Addis Ababa.
- Control petty cash and bankbooks, reconcile accounts monthly.
- Conduct surprise cash counts and annual stock counts, prepare reports.
- Supervise compliance with store regulations.
- Participate in monthly/quarterly planning and provide input on accounting procedures.
- Lead recruitment, training, and supervision of administrative staff in area and field offices.
Qualification & Experience
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with international NGOs.
- Fluency in English, Amharic, and Oromifa.
- Strong teamworking skills; staff management experience preferred.
- Experience liaising with government authorities, IOs, and NGOs.
- Ability to work under pressure in stressful environments.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, double‑entry bookkeeping software).
