Eco-Justice Ethiopia is inviting applications for two 3-month paid internship positions in Addis Ababa. The opportunities are focused on environmental and climate justice, research and advocacy, youth engagement, and community mobilization.

1. Research and Advocacy Officer (Intern)

Role Overview

The Research and Advocacy Officer will support legal and policy initiatives through research, policy analysis, advocacy activities, and development of research and communication materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and policy research on environmental governance, climate-induced loss and damage, and national waste management regulations.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, position papers, and analytical articles.
  • Support preparation of training materials and capacity-building workshops on climate change and human rights.
  • Monitor policy developments related to environmental law and the circular economy in Ethiopia and globally.
  • Support planning, coordination, and implementation of projects, workshops, trainings, consultations, and advocacy activities.
  • Contribute to advocacy and communication materials, including social media content, website materials, and campaign messages.
  • Maintain and organize databases, research materials, project documents, and institutional records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is required.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.5.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in research, advocacy, or legal analysis.
  • Must be under 29 years old.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and research skills.
  • Understanding of environmental justice and human rights frameworks.
  • Communication and attention to detail.

2. Youth Engagement and Community Mobilization Officer (Intern)

Role Overview

The Youth Engagement and Community Mobilization Officer will support grassroots initiatives, community workshops, youth environmental clubs, and community-based waste management and zero-waste activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and deliver educational workshops, public debates, and campaigns on climate resilience, organic waste bioconversion, and plastic pollution.
  • Liaise with local community groups, including informal waste pickers and waste collection cooperatives, to support project implementation and equipment distribution.
  • Promote cultural and traditional sustainable practices through community outreach and grassroots campaigning.
  • Assist with the logistical planning and implementation of environmental events, film screenings, and youth forums.
  • Support the organization’s graphic design needs.
  • Support monitoring, documentation, and reporting of community-based environmental activities and project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Law, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Communications, or another related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in community organizing, graphic design, event planning, volunteer coordination, or grassroots campaigning.
  • Must be under 29 years old.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to connect with diverse groups.
  • Communication and attention to detail.
