NRC is recruiting a full‑time Education Technical Assistant to be based in Jijiga, Somali Region. This role supports the implementation of education projects, including monitoring, reporting, training, and community mobilization. The position is essential to ensuring quality education services for displacement‑affected children and communities. Responsibilities

  1. Role and responsibilities

The following is a brief description of the role. 

 

Generic responsibilities 

  • Monitor and report on the project activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC standards
  • Work with the community education committees in the planning and enrollment of the activities
  • Distribute and monitor the use of school materials according to procedures
  • Lead the training and other activities of the project and implement it to the highest standards
  • Assisting the teachers in their work
  • Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities 
  • Report all education related concerns 
  • Carry out data collection as required
  • Prepare field reports
  • Prepare and file relevant documents as required by line manager
  • Support monitoring & evaluation activities and all report writing activities
  • Record and maintain project specific field documents according to donor and NRC specifications
  • Mobilize communities and beneficiaries to participate in education activities
  • Maintains a strong work-relation with communities and implementing partners
  • Contribute to the development of project and thematic materials for use in Education program activities
  • Support Education Coordinator, Education Officer and other Education program staffs to conduct assessments and surveys
  • Support all budgeting, accounting and administration tasks of education activities 

 

Specific responsibilities 

  • Support monitoring & evaluation activities and all report writing activities
  • Record and maintain project specific field documents according to donor and NRC specifications
  • Mobilize communities and beneficiaries to participate in education activities
  • Maintains a strong work-relation with communities and implementing partners
  • Contribute to the development of project and thematic materials for use in Education program activities
  • Support Education Coordinator, Education Officer and other Education program staffs to conduct assessments and surveys
  • Support all budgeting, accounting and administration tasks of education activities 
  • Support the Education Officer and Education Project Coordinator in providing translation as necessary
  • Abide by all standard NRC security protocols when circulating in the field and encourage team members to do the same.
  • Provide trainings such as gender, climate changes, life skills, business skills and psychosocial support courses as assigned by the line manager.
  • Support the schools, PTSAs, Woreda education offices, zonal education office for the field implementation in line with the tasks assigned by the line manager.
  • All other tasks not mentioned above that might be requested to improve and support the program
  • Scan and archive all documents related to financial, procurement and program needs

Generic professional competencies for this position: 

  • At least 2 years of experience from working with NRC education projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • BA degree with relevant experience necessary.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • English and Computer skills

 

Context related skills; knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position): 

  • Strong administrative, accounting and reporting skills.
  • Good Computer skills
  • Good English skills
  • Training and facilitation skills in particular 
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Ability and willingness to work and live under difficult circumstances
  • Flexible, creative and co-operative
  • Somali language is must
